A STEP TO REMEMBER
APRIL 30, 2025
APRIL 30, 2025
April 30th 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon. As time passes we often forget the sacrifices that so many made in the name of freedom. A Step to Remember is a way to honor those that sacrificed so much and paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom.
NOTE: This event is physically Alabama but everyone can participate virtually. Also, we wanted to give Eric Fort credit for his patriotism.

On Wednesday April 30th 2025 Eric Fort, of Birmingham, Alabama will be walking 58,281 steps, a step for every name etched into the black granite of the Vietnam Memorial Wall, also known simply as The Wall. Once completed another 1,573 steps will be taken for those still missing or unaccounted for. He will walk while carrying a 17 lb. weighted vest - 1 lb. for each year of losses suffered by our nation, friends and Families.
A Step to Remember will begin at 0700 CST in Veterans Park located just south of Birmingham in Alabaster, AL. I would love to have you join me for all 59,854 steps possible. If for some reason you are unable to participate in the entire distance that's okay. Choose a year or several years and walk a step for the name of each hero that lost their life during that year. Participate as a relay and complete as much as you can as a team. In person or virtual, the options are many but the goal in doing this event is to remind the nation of the accountability of all POW/MIA while honoring the memory of those killed in action.
This is not a sanctioned event and there are no registration fees however I ask that if you join me on the walk, whether it is in person or virtually, you donate whatever you feel is right to participate. 100% of all proceeds received will go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Buy a Mile ( https://www.vvmf.org/The-Wall-That-Heals/) program that helps to support. Donations can be made via the website link. My only ask is that in the Additional Information box you enter A Step to Remember. Please click the button below for more ways to donate and more details.
