The Escort for the Vietnam
Traveling Wall

ASSEMBLING THE WALL

The Traveling Wall takes 4 - 8 hours to assemble, depending on conditions and crew experience.  It takes about 3 - 6 hours to tear down.
This is a snippet of video from LivoniaTV's YouTube channel.
You can see the full video here.

Facts about the Vietnam Traveling Wall

  • The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
  • It’s meant to honor the memory of over 58,000 service members who died or went missing during the Vietnam War.
  • The original wall in D.C. has 70 panels (each side has 35); the traveling version, being slightly smaller in scale, uses 58 panels to represent the same 58,000+ names.
  • The wall travels to different communities across the United States to give people who can’t visit D.C. a chance to experience the memorial.
  • The wall is a 3/5 scale replica of the original.
  • It stands 6 feet tall at its highest point and stretches almost 300 feet in length.
  • Just like the D.C. wall, the names are listed in the order of casualty date, not alphabetically.
  • The Traveling Wall is maintained by Vietnam and All Veterans of Brevard (VVB), a veteran organization based in Florida.
  • It was built in the mid-2000s to increase awareness and promote healing in communities nationwide.
